OneShot: World Machine Edition
Achievement guide · roadmap · tracker
The World Knows You Exist. Experience an adventure game with puzzles that go beyond its own window and establish a unique bond with the main character. In OneShot: World Machine Edition, you discover a strange computer operating system with a self-contained world installed. Explore this world to unravel its mysteries and help guide a child on their mission to restore the long-dead sun. You hear that saving the world may no longer be possible… But it’s worth a shot, you think. Now with collectible content and features exclusive to the World Machine Edition!
OneShot is a meta puzzle-adventure about Niko, a small cat-eared child carrying a lightbulb sun and tasked with saving a dying world - and it knows you, the player, are real, reaching outside the game window and remembering your choices. Quietly moving, clever and short (around 4-6 hours). The World Machine Edition folds in the "Solstice" route and a pile of collectibles.
The one that defines the game is OneShot - beat a full normal run WITHOUT ever using the window's close button (closing is a meta-mechanic elsewhere, but here it costs you the achievement). Nothing else is truly missable; you can mop up on later playthroughs, though note that once you're locked into the Solstice route on New Game Plus you can only earn the collectible ones. The four big collect-alls are Color Coordinator (10 themes), Social Butterfly (21 friend entries), Wallpaper Wizard (24 wallpapers) and Thanks for Everything (all 15 badges, the completion cap). See each note below.
Chaotic Evil
Common"Don't do that!"
In the Barrens, near Prophet-Bot's residence, place the sun on the factory machine - the game tells you not to, which is exactly why you do it.
Shock
CommonNot fun.
At Prophet-Bot's residence, turn on the generator, then interact with it (Z) while Niko is next to it to zap him. Not fun for Niko, but it pops.
We Ride at Dawn
CommonNyooooom
In the city apartments, find the machine Niko can climb aboard and interact with it - off he nyooms.
Pancakes
CommonFavorite food.
Late game, when you leave the library, accept Niko's dinner offer - then head to the city cafeteria and talk to the NPC there for the pancakes.
Return
Common...
Finish the Solstice route once, then open the three-dots option in the start menu to replay it as Niko's memory - a second, reflective pass.
Bookworm
CommonRead books in the library.
Read every yellow-bordered book in the city library - and don't miss the ones in George's room. The yellow border marks the ones that count.
Rebirth
UncommonA sidequest.
The Maize sidequest: plant the Maize seed in the city using soil from Mason, a water sample from the Valley, and a rapid-growth pill. Gather all three, then plant.
Ram Whisperer
UncommonHerd rams with ease.
Solve the ram-herding puzzle in a single go, without restarting it - a reset voids the achievement. Plan the pushes before you commit so the rams line up cleanly first time.
Oneshot
UncommonBack to its roots.
Beat the game in one normal run without ever using the window's close (X) button - the classic OneShot way. Closing is woven into the game elsewhere, but for this you must see the run through in a single clean sitting.
Secret
Uncommon?????
Hidden achievement. Trade wool with Magpie but refuse the ink, so you keep the lamb-wool shirt - then wear it and stand at the wall bearing the orange ram painting in the city.
Color Coordinator
UncommonCollect all themes
Collect all 10 UI colour themes on the normal route - scattered pickups across the world. Grab every one for the set.
Extreme Bartering
RareExhausting all possibilities, are we?
Trade every available item with Magpie in the Valley - exhaust the whole barter list. Bring along everything Magpie will take, since some trades open up others.
Social Butterfly
RareCollect all friend entries
Collect all 21 friend entries (character profiles) across the normal and Solstice routes. A few only appear on Solstice, so you'll need both routes for the full set.
Wallpaper Wizard
RareCollect all wallpapers
Collect all 24 wallpapers across the normal and Solstice routes - some are Solstice-only, so plan for both.
Thanks for Everything
RareCollect all badges
The completion cap: earn all 15 badges (every other achievement in the game) and this one pops to thank you. Clean up the collectibles and one-offs and it falls out last.
