Acheev is operated by Tamperan (the "Company", "we", "us"), a company in the United Kingdom. We take your privacy very seriously. Our philosophy is to have the smallest privacy footprint possible and to be open, transparent and decent in how we operate with your data.

The purpose of this policy is to describe what information we collect and hold, and what we do with it.

Applicability

This policy applies to all visitors to the Web Site or Documentation, and all standard accounts.

By submitting your information through our Website or Software you agree to the terms of this policy and expressly consent to the collection, use and disclosure in accordance with this policy.

Compliance

We are compliant with, and operate within the terms of, the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, CCPA and other relevant legislation.

Part of this compliance includes your right to access (and request removal of) any data we hold about you. If you wish to make such a request, please contact us via our Discord or the contact form. Requests will be handled in compliance with relevant legislation.

Information we collect & how it is used

Web & product analytics

Use of our web site and documentation includes basic analytics, so that we can understand the effectiveness of our content and how the app is used.

We use PostHog for product analytics, to understand how people use the application so we can improve it. PostHog may collect basic usage data such as page views and feature interactions. Where consent is required of us - the UK, the EU/EEA and Switzerland - analytics run only after you give it, via our cookie banner, and if you decline we collect none. Elsewhere analytics start enabled and you can turn them off at any time with the "Manage cookies" link, which we honour immediately. We use no other analytics provider and we do not perform any 'fingerprinting'. Our analytics data is processed in the European Union.

Your online account

When you sign in or create an account at https://acheev.net you use a third-party sign-in (Steam or Xbox) that you already have and which is governed by that third party's terms.

Through that sign-in, we collect only basic profile information (e.g. display name / gamertag, avatar image, and the country/locale your platform exposes) which you consent to via your sign-in provider at the point of signing in. We retain this information for the life of your account with us.

Your gaming library & achievement data

Acheev is an achievement-hunting companion, so the core of the service is reading your gaming activity from the platforms you connect (Steam and Xbox). With your account connected we collect and store the games you own, your achievements and trophies, their unlock state and timestamps, and related progress data, so we can show you progress-aware guides and personalised recommendations.

This data is sourced from the connected platform's own APIs, on your behalf and with your consent given at sign-in. It is held securely and is not disclosed to third parties except as described in this policy. You can disconnect a platform or close your account at any time, after which we remove the associated data in line with our retention practices.

Subscriptions & payments

We use a reputable third-party payments processor and we do not collect, hold, store nor have access to your payment details.

We do collect and retain records relating to any payments or subscriptions (e.g. amount paid, when, what for) for the purposes of administering your account and subscription, and for administering our business as required by law.

Communications

If you choose to communicate with us - via our Discord, our contact form, or any online forum hosted by us - anything you post may be visible to others in accordance with our Terms of Use. Your participation may also be subject to the terms and privacy policies of any third-party platform used to host such a forum (for example Discord), which will be clear for you to review and consent to prior to such participation. Any such participation is optional and at your discretion.

Third-party integrations

Your use of Acheev involves third-party integrations (e.g. Steam and Xbox) so that we can sync your gaming activity. Any such activity by you is at your discretion and is bound by the terms you agree with the third party.

Anonymous aggregated data

We reserve the right to share anonymous aggregate data publicly, such as (for example) the relative popularity of different games, or the average completion rate of an achievement.

Such disclosure will be aggregated and anonymous and will not contain sufficient detail to identify any individual customer.

Disclosure

We do not disclose your data to any third party except as expressly outlined in this policy, or with your explicit consent, or for these limited circumstances:

  • to protect, enforce, or defend the legal rights, privacy, safety or property of the Company, our affiliates or their employees, agents and contractors (including enforcement of our agreements and Terms of Use)
  • to protect against fraud
  • to comply with the law, where we are obligated to disclose such data to a government or law enforcement
  • to respond to valid requests from government and public authorities

Such disclosures, if made, may be outside your country of residence.

AI

We use AI to help produce and personalise guide content. Where AI features use your progress data, they do so solely to provide the service to you (for example, tailoring guidance to what you have left to do).

Your data is not sold to, nor used to train the models of, any third-party AI provider.

Location

Any information you provide to us will be stored and processed on secure servers hosted in the United Kingdom and/or the European Union.

Marketing

If you consent, we may periodically contact you electronically to update/inform you about new or exciting developments relating to Acheev or new products we create. You can manage your consent online in your profile at https://acheev.net.

We do not disclose, nor sell access to, your data to any third party for any marketing purposes besides what you may opt in and consent to in your online profile.

Promotions on the site

Some pages carry a small promotion for one of our own products. These are labelled "Promoted", and they are our own, served by us. We do not run a third-party ad network, we do not sell advertising space, and no advertiser or ad-tech company receives your data or places anything on your device through them.

To know whether a promotion is working, we count four things: how often one was rendered, whether it was actually on screen (at least half of it, for at least a second), whether it was clicked, and whether that led to a sign-up on the product it promoted.

How that is measured matters, so here it is in full:

  • No cookies and no device storage of any kind are used for promotions. Nothing is written to your browser, and nothing is read from it. This is why promotions need no consent and are not part of the cookie banner.
  • To avoid counting the same person twice, we derive a one-way hash of your IP address and browser user-agent, salted with a secret that changes every 24 hours. Your IP address itself is never stored. The hash cannot be reversed, and because the salt rotates daily it cannot be used to link you from one day to the next.
  • Clicks pass through a redirect on our own site so we can count them before sending you on. The destination link carries only a campaign label - never anything identifying you.
  • The individual records above are deleted after 90 days. What we keep beyond that is a daily count per promotion, which contains no identifier of any kind.
  • We do not build a profile of you, do not track you across other websites, and do not target promotions based on anything about you.

Cookies

We use a small number of necessary cookies that do not require your consent: one to keep you signed in (your authenticated session), and one - named consent - that remembers your cookie choices.

Our cookie banner offers four categories - strictly necessary, preferences, improvement and marketing. Of those, the only one Acheev actually uses today is improvement:

  • Analytics cookies - PostHog, to understand how the product is used so we can improve it.

The preferences and marketing categories appear so that your choice is recorded before anything could ever rely on it. We currently set no preferences or marketing cookies at all, and if that changes it will only apply to people who have already opted in.

Which categories are on by default depends on where you are. In the UK, the EU/EEA and Switzerland nothing beyond strictly necessary is enabled until you choose; elsewhere the optional categories start enabled and you can turn them off at any time with the "Manage cookies" link.

Where consent is required of us - the UK, the EU/EEA and Switzerland - we set no analytics cookies until you give it. You can accept, reject, or change your choices at any time using the "Manage cookies" link, and we honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals from your browser.
