Gothic 1 Remake cover

Gothic 1 Remake

Achievement guide · roadmap · tracker

Gothic 1 Remake is an action role-playing game set in a third-person perspective within a fantasy open world. It is a remake of the 2001 game Gothic, developed by Alkimia Interactive using Unreal Engine 5. The player controls a nameless prisoner sent into the Valley of Mines, a penal colony surrounded by a magical barrier. The game features NPC routines, faction-based quest paths, and a progression system where the player starts with no skills and must learn them from trainers. Navigation is done without a minimap, and the game world is 10 to 30 percent larger than the original, with expanded chapters and additional quest content. Combat and skill systems are based on the original game's design.

Role-playing (RPG) Adventure Action Fantasy Open world
2026 ★ 72 42 achievements Guide 91%

A faithful, properly atmospheric remake of the 2001 cult classic - the Colony still bites, and getting dumped in the penal mining valley with nothing but your fists never gets old. The list is a good one: mostly natural play, but it wants roughly 3 playthroughs and a bit of forward planning, so its not a one-and-done 100%. Nothing here is properly hard.

The catch is that the three camps are mutually exclusive - you only join one faction per save, and each has its own join: Gomez' PaperboyGomez' Paperboy (Old Camp), LowlifeLowlife (New Camp) and Cult LoonCult Loon (Swamp Camp). Sort your saves before you commit to anyone.

Read this before you start

  • Make a hard save just before you join any camp. Reload it to pop all three join achievements without three full runs.
  • Magic is camp-gated. The Swamp Camp caps you at the 4th Magic Circle, which locks out AbracadabraAbracadabra (6th Circle) and OverachieverOverachiever (all lessons). Do your mage/lessons run as Old or New Camp, never Swamp.
  • Map SnifferMap Sniffer clashes with OverachieverOverachiever. One map (the Old Mine #2 map from Cor Kalom) only appears if you're in the Swamp Camp holding no map at all - so treat Map SnifferMap Sniffer as its own Swamp-run job.
  • Keep Mud alive. Mud FreakMud Freak wants all his dialogue and the poor sod dies easily, so babysit him.

The plan

  1. Run 1 - Old (or New) Camp, mage build. The big one. Do the full story, all the crafting and skills, climb to the 6th Circle, learn every lesson, master your weapons, sneak into the Old Camp (No gate can stop youNo gate can stop you), keep Mud alive, finish the True StrangerTrue Stranger and The AnatomaniacThe Anatomaniac questlines, and spare Gomez for Mercy Over MadnessMercy Over Madness. Commit to never sleeping from the off and you'll bag Insomnia ChampionInsomnia Champion on the same run. Hard save before you join.
  2. Reload the master save and join the other two camps for LowlifeLowlife and Cult LoonCult Loon.
  3. Swamp run for Map SnifferMap Sniffer - grab the Cor Kalom map before you pick up any other.
  4. Permadeath run for No time to dieNo time to die. Play safe, over-level early, keep potions stocked; knowing the route from your earlier runs makes this a doddle by comparison.

Single-player throughout, no multiplayer to worry about. Check each achievement's notes for the specifics.

Crafting Newbie

Crafting Newbie

ObjectiveOptional

Craft your first item

Craft anything at all - forge a crude blade, brew a potion, cook some meat. You'll trip over this on the way to Anvil EnthusiastAnvil Enthusiast and AlkimistAlkimist.

Gomez' Paperboy

Gomez' Paperboy

ObjectiveMutually-exclusive

Join Old Camp

Get to the Old Camp early and do the odd-jobs the Shadows set you until they let you in properly. One of three mutually-exclusive camp joins (LowlifeLowlife and Cult LoonCult Loon are the others) - you only pledge to one faction per save. Make a hard save just before you join so you can reload it for the other two without replaying.

Headshot Houdini

Headshot Houdini

GrindOptional

Kill 10 enemies with headshots

Land 10 headshots with a bow or crossbow. Aim for the head on weak stuff - scavengers, molerats - from range. It ticks up naturally while you level ranged for String WielderString Wielder.

Master Garrett

Master Garrett

GrindOptional

Unlock 20 locks with lockpicking

Pick 20 locks. Buy a stack of lockpicks and open every locked chest and door you pass (save first - a wrong nudge snaps a pick). There are far more than 20 around the Colony, so just loot thoroughly and it comes.

Sect-ary

Sect-ary

StoryUnmissable

Complete Chapter 2

Nothing to chase here - it's forced by the main story, so it can't be missed. Just play on and it pops in its own time.

Way of the Guild

Way of the Guild

ObjectiveOptional

Rank Up in any Guild

You'll get your first promotion automatically as you work through your camp's questline - it lands early on every path, so nothing to grind for.

Focus Maniac

Focus Maniac

StoryUnmissable

Complete Chapter 3

Another forced story beat, impossible to miss. No action needed, just keep the main quest moving.

Lowlife

Lowlife

ObjectiveMutually-exclusive

Join New Camp

Head to the New Camp and win the mercenaries over to be let in. Mutually-exclusive with Gomez' PaperboyGomez' Paperboy and Cult LoonCult Loon, so reload your pre-join save to grab it on its own. The New Camp is a mage path too (Water Mages), so its a fine choice for AbracadabraAbracadabra and OverachieverOverachiever.

Bookworm

Bookworm

GrindOptional

Read 10 books

Read 10 books. They're dotted around the camps, huts and towers - loot and read every one. It also feeds the lore quests like The AnatomaniacThe Anatomaniac, so don't skip them.

Foreign Language Master

Foreign Language Master

ObjectiveOptional

Learn Orcish Level 2

Get Orcish up to Level 2. It comes from finding and reading the Orcish language books and taking the lessons, tied to the later chapters where you're poking around Orc ruins. Read every Orcish tablet you find and take the language lessons when they're offered.

Cult Loon

Cult Loon

ObjectiveMutually-exclusive

Join Swamp Camp

Join the Sect out in the Swamp Camp. Mutually-exclusive with the other two joins. Big caveat: the Swamp caps your magic at the 4th Circle, so don't plan AbracadabraAbracadabra or OverachieverOverachiever on this save. It is, though, the run you want for Map SnifferMap Sniffer - the Cor Kalom mine map is Swamp-only.

Armor-geddon

Armor-geddon

ObjectiveOptional

Get Ore Armor

Get yourself a set of Ore Armor - the heavy end-game kit bought or crafted with ore. You'll reach it mid-to-late once you've got the ore and the standing for a smith or the barons to sort you out. Any ore-tier set counts.

No gate can stop you

No gate can stop you

ObjectiveOptional

Sneak into the Old Camp

Get into the Old Camp without walking through the main gate - climb over the walls or slip in a back way instead of being waved through. Have a poke around the perimeter for a climbable bit of palisade or rock and sneak in behind the guards. Do it before you're a member.

My new friend the Necromancer

My new friend the Necromancer

StoryUnmissable

Complete Chapter 4

This is where you throw in with the necromancer Xardas. Story-forced, so unmissable - nothing to do but see it through.

The Sleeper is with you

The Sleeper is with you

StoryUnmissable

Enter the Sleeper Temple

A late main-quest beat you're railroaded straight into, so its unmissable. Nothing to seek out.

Anvil Enthusiast

Anvil Enthusiast

GrindOptional

Craft 5 weapons

Forge 5 weapons at a smithy. You'll want the smithing lessons plus ore and the full setup (forge, anvil, cooling barrel). Crude swords are dirt cheap to churn out, so bang out five and it pops.

Alkimist

Alkimist

GrindOptional

Craft 10 potions

Brew 10 potions at an alchemy bench. Learn the alchemy lessons, hoover up herbs as you explore, and cook simple healing or mana potions. Herbs are everywhere, so this is cake over a run.

Scribbler

Scribbler

ObjectiveOptional

Craft your first scroll

Make a single rune or scroll at a magic desk - needs the relevant magic-crafting lesson and the materials. Any one does it, and you'll be doing this anyway on a mage run.

Orc Culture Ninja

Orc Culture Ninja

StoryUnmissable

Complete Chapter 5

Comes free with story progress and can't be missed. Keep pushing the main quest and it lands on its own.

The Sleeper awakens...Not!

The Sleeper awakens...Not!

StoryUnmissableStory complete

Complete Chapter 6

The finish-line unlock: see off the Sleeper to end the game. You'll have it on any completed run.

Mud Freak

Mud Freak

ObjectiveMissable

Exhaust all of Mud's dialogue options

Missable, and a soft-hearted one: exhaust all of Mud's dialogue across the game. The snag is Mud is a weedy, cowardly little sort who dies at the drop of a hat - if he's killed, that's it, gone for the run. Look out for him whenever there's a scrap nearby, check back after big story beats, and keep chatting until he's out of lines. Keep a save from before anything that might get him killed.

Gravity Kills

Gravity Kills

ObjectiveOptional

Kill an enemy by using fall damage

Kill something with fall damage. Bait or shove an enemy off a ledge, or fight near a drop and boot one over the edge. The mountain paths and the climb up to the Old Camp are full of handy cliffs.

The Fixer

The Fixer

ObjectiveOptional

Complete “Escape Plan” Quest

A short, low-stakes mid-game side quest with no missable window - pick it up, work through the steps and hand it in.

Garrett

Garrett

GrindOptional

Pickpocket from 20 characters

Pickpocket 20 different characters. Learn the pickpocket lesson, then sneak behind NPCs when nobody's watching and lift their pockets. Save first - a botched attempt turns them hostile. Loads of marks in every camp.

True Stranger

True Stranger

ObjectiveMissable

Complete Chromanin Quests

Missable questline: see the Chromanin quests through to the end - the hidden lore chain about tracking down the scattered Chromanin books and clues. Read every book you come across (they nudge the quest along) and don't leave the later chapters with it half-finished.

The way of the fist

The way of the fist

GrindOptional

Defeat 10 enemies using your fists

Beat down 10 enemies with your bare fists, no weapon drawn. Easiest on the weak early wildlife - scavengers, molerats, young meatbugs. Fists-only a few whenever you pass easy prey and its sorted long before you're strong.

The Anatomaniac

The Anatomaniac

ObjectiveOptional

Complete Cavalorn Books Quests

Finish Cavalorn's book quests - the chain the hunter Cavalorn sets you, collecting and returning specific tomes. Talk to Cavalorn, take it on, and hand in every book it asks for. Hoarding and reading books as you go (see BookwormBookworm) makes this much smoother.

Pimp my armor

Pimp my armor

All-the-thingsOptional

Get all the mods for an Armor

Fit every available mod to a single piece of armour at the crafting station. Pick one armour, gather the mod components, and slot them all into that same piece.

Mercy Over Madness

Mercy Over Madness

ObjectiveMissable

Spare Gomez’s Life

A missable choice: at the head-to-head with Gomez (the Old Camp's top ore baron), pick the option to spare him rather than finishing him off. Hard save right before the confrontation so you can choose mercy on purpose - take the kill route and its locked out for that save.

String Wielder

String Wielder

All-the-thingsOptional

Get master in all Ranged Weapons

Master both ranged lines (bow and crossbow) at a trainer. Same deal as the melee masteries - it wants a big stack of learning points, so over-level and pour it in. Feeds Headshot HoudiniHeadshot Houdini along the way.

Abracadabra

Abracadabra

ObjectiveOptional

Get the 6th Magic Circle

Reach the 6th and highest Magic Circle. You have to commit to a mage guild - the Fire Mages (Old Camp side) or Water Mages (New Camp) - and work up the circles one at a time. Don't try this on a Swamp save: the Sect caps you at the 4th Circle, so Cult LoonCult Loon kills it stone dead. Pairs with OverachieverOverachiever.

Deflecto

Deflecto

ObjectiveOptional

Parry an enemy 5 times without dodging or receiving damage

Parry 5 hits in a row without dodging or taking any damage. Pick one slow melee attacker - a lone bandit or skeleton - plant your feet and time your blocks to its swings. Block, don't roll. Do it against something weak so there's no pressure.

In bed with Xardas

In bed with Xardas

ObjectiveOptional

Visit Xardas' room

A daft little easter egg - just step into Xardas' private room in his tower. Once you've reached Xardas (Chapter 4 area), have a nose around the tower and wander into his bedroom to pop it.

Elemental Showoff

Elemental Showoff

ObjectiveOptional

Deal all 3 elemental damage types to the same enemy

Hit the same enemy with all three elements - fire, ice and lightning. Easiest on a mage run: bring one spell or scroll of each and land all three on a beefy enemy before it drops. Runes or scrolls do the job if you're not a full mage.

Adept of Arms

Adept of Arms

All-the-thingsOptional

Get master in all Melee Weapons

Max out every melee skill line (one- and two-handed) with a weapons trainer. It eats a lot of learning points, so over-level through quests and hunting and spend it all. Pairs neatly with OverachieverOverachiever on the same run.

Transformer

Transformer

All-the-thingsOptional

Transform into all creatures

Cast every creature-transformation form at least once. Each is its own spell/scroll that turns you into a specific beast (scavenger, wolf, and bigger stuff). Collect one of every transform rune/scroll - buy them from mage trainers, loot them from spellbooks - and cast each. Keep a checklist so you don't miss a form.

Insomnia Champion

Insomnia Champion

ObjectiveOptional

Complete the game without sleeping

Finish the whole game without ever sleeping in a bed. Decide this before you start a run, because a single kip voids it and beds are tempting for skipping time or topping up. Rest is optional in Gothic, so simply never use one - heal with potions and food, and just stand around to pass time if a quest wants a certain hour. Best folded into your main run if you commit from the off.

Map Sniffer

Map Sniffer

All-the-thingsSoft-missable

Get all the Maps

Collect every map in the game, and its the fiddly one. Most you buy or loot as normal, but one - the Map to the Old Mine #2 from Cor Kalom - only turns up if you're in the Swamp Camp and holding no map at all when you take that quest. That Swamp requirement clashes with your mage/OverachieverOverachiever run, so treat this as a job for a dedicated Swamp playthrough and grab the Cor Kalom map before you pick up any other.

Overachiever

Overachiever

All-the-thingsOptional

Learn all the lessons.

Learn every lesson in the game - all trainable skills from every trainer (combat, magic circles, crafting, thieving, the lot). It wants a mountain of learning points, so over-level hard and spend at every trainer. Needs a full mage path, so its off the table on Cult LoonCult Loon (4th-Circle cap), and it clashes with Map SnifferMap Sniffer - do those on separate runs.

No time to die

No time to die

ObjectiveOptional

Complete the game in permadeath mode

Beat the game on Permadeath - one life, death ends the run. Do it as its own playthrough. Over-level in the safe early areas before you push on, always carry a fat stack of healing potions, pull enemies one at a time with a bow or terrain, and steer clear of packs and the ambushes you already know about. No save-scumming to bail you out, so play patient. A route you know cold from earlier runs makes this far less scary than it sounds.

Colonyholic

Colonyholic

All-the-thingsOptional

Get all Achievements

The 100% capstone - pops on its own the moment every other achievement is done. Follow the roadmap: one big mage run (story, skills, magic, missables, spare Gomez), reloads for the other two camps, a Swamp run for Map SnifferMap Sniffer, and a Permadeath run for No time to dieNo time to die. When the last one drops, so does this.

Gothic 1 Remake Completionist

Gothic 1 Remake Completionist

All-the-thingsOptional

The overall completion award - given for unlocking every other achievement. Nothing to do for it directly; clear the list (see the roadmap and ColonyholicColonyholic) and it lands with the final one.
