Sea of Thieves is a first-person multiplayer action-adventure game in which players take on the role of pirates exploring an open world ocean. Crews of one to four players operate sloop, brigantine, or galleon ships cooperatively, completing voyages for various trading companies, hunting for treasure, battling skeleton forts, and encountering other player crews who may form alliances or attack. The game features a cosmetics-only progression system, meaning all players have equal gameplay capabilities regardless of experience level.
Its very easy to make a chunky dent in the achievements for this game, some can be done right in the opening moments (
There's a chunk of grinding to do (yay), inevitably for a live service MMO-ish type of game. As a fully open-world sandbox there isn't really a campaign as such - so in the guide here we have defined 'Story' as 'do everything for the three trading companies and become a Pirate Legend (
The grind achievements are a grind, but they are unlocked as a consequence of getting commendations (i.e. unlocked at various points in the grind), so progress toward them isn't reported in the same way as a normal 'get X kills' type achievement. The achievements are all for the Grade 5 (highest) level for the category. These will take a good while to unlock them all - albeit with good use of Emissary flags to boost gold/XP its nowhere near as painful as it was at launch.
Nothing is missable and there's no difficulty setting - just set sail and enjoy!
But many achievements are Unobtainable; as they relate to the old Arena mode that was removed in a previous update. There is no way to get these and no chance of this ever being reinstated.
Note; this is an online-only shared-world game. Most of it you can solo, but some achievements require that you engage with other players, including 
It is highly recommended that you use microphone to contact other players, this is a great way to boost up achievements that require you to act as friends or foes. Also the LFG channels in the Sea of Thieves Discord are a great place to find people to sail with, for the achievements and also for general progress.

- Yes, 13, all unobtainable: Glorious Sea Dog, Show Your Colours, Nice Pirates Finish Last, Rum 'n' Bass, Fortune and Glory, Captain of Silvered Waters, Pints Mean Prizes, Master of the Arena, Champion of Silvered Waters, Sailor of Silvered Waters, Legend of Silvered Waters, Capture the Swag and Hot Tub Crime Machine. Also, 4 were glitched and have since been fixed: Bone-Cronch, Shopping for a Promotion, Self Entitled and Kraken Good Job. 125 of 303 not yet checked.

Note the chests don't actually have to be on your ship - just in your "possession"; so just picking a chest up counts as making it yours.

Another painful grind; you can do this for any of the items that the trading companies sell you (each one has two items you can buy). the max level upgrade only becomes available when you're at rank 45 with the trading company, and it will cost a total of 15,000 gold to buy through the upgrades.

Bone-Cronch

Cronch means eat. Skeletons may eat a banana to heal if they are injured. Kill one quick while it is doing this. This was partially glitched back at launch but works fine more recently.
When You're A Professional Pirate

You get a commendation for each level you unlock in the 12 grinds that exist for each of the three trading companies. You'll get this early in your journey grinding for all the other achievements.
I'm On A Whole New Adventure

You need to be in coop for this; with your crewmate putting a Voyage on the table for selection - vote for it and start to pop the achievement.
I Don’t See Your Ship

Some reports (unconfirmed) that this can be glitchy, but you can attempt it anytime. Likely easiest solo so you can use the smaller ship. Just have a go ad adjusting the sails to get the speed boost, try to maximise this and the achievement should pop. Alternatively, you're quite likely to get this popping randomly as you sail about the place and just happen to get the alignment right...
It's A Pirates Life For Me

Gold Hoarders are one of the three factions you'll do missions for. These are the ones in the small tent with the gold key flag outside and a wizened dude inside.
The missions will be to find an island with an 'X' marks the spot, where there'll be a buried chest. Find the island and dig up the treasure to complete the mission. On completing the first one you'll likely unlock

Kraken Good Job

The kraken appears randomly as you sail around; it could spawn could happen anytime while at sea, to a single ship. There is no way to trigger it (nor avoid it) - except that it cannot appear at the same time as another world event. It is defeatable easily with a single ship - just keep hitting the tentacles with cannonfire until it retreats.
Avoid being grabbed by a tentacle and lifted off the ship - if you're solo this is the most likely way to end up sunk and fail.
Mercenary of the Ancient Order

Find another player's ship, ideally one that is stationary at a port. Hope they don't shoot at you. Go to a cannon, unload it if it has a cannon ball in it and aim at the other ship. Its helpful to aim at a mast (you won't take damage for hitting it!) so you can splat the mast and fall to the deck. Once aimed, go up to the front of the cannon barrel and use the action to get in it. Then fire self, and win!
