Sea of Thieves
Achievement guide · roadmap · tracker
Sea of Thieves is a first-person multiplayer action-adventure game in which players take on the role of pirates exploring an open world ocean. Crews of one to four players operate sloop, brigantine, or galleon ships cooperatively, completing voyages for various trading companies, hunting for treasure, battling skeleton forts, and encountering other player crews who may form alliances or attack. The game features a cosmetics-only progression system, meaning all players have equal gameplay capabilities regardless of experience level.
Its very easy to make a chunky dent in the achievements for this game, some can be done right in the opening moments (
There's a chunk of grinding to do (yay), inevitably for a live service MMO-ish type of game. As a fully open-world sandbox there isn't really a campaign as such - so in the guide here we have defined 'Story' as 'do everything for the three trading companies and become a Pirate Legend (
The grind achievements are a grind, but they are unlocked as a consequence of getting commendations (i.e. unlocked at various points in the grind), so progress toward them isn't reported in the same way as a normal 'get X kills' type achievement. The achievements are all for the Grade 5 (highest) level for the category. These will take a good while to unlock them all - albeit with good use of Emissary flags to boost gold/XP its nowhere near as painful as it was at launch.
Nothing is missable and there's no difficulty setting - just set sail and enjoy!
But many achievements are Unobtainable; as they relate to the old Arena mode that was removed in a previous update. There is no way to get these and no chance of this ever being reinstated.
Note; this is an online-only shared-world game. Most of it you can solo, but some achievements require that you engage with other players, including
It is highly recommended that you use microphone to contact other players, this is a great way to boost up achievements that require you to act as friends or foes. Also the LFG channels in the Sea of Thieves Discord are a great place to find people to sail with, for the achievements and also for general progress.

Eat raw/uncooked food and be sick. This is easy right from the beginning with any meat. Kill a chicken/snake/pig on any island to get meat if needed.

Laden With Treasure
Uncommon20.4%You had twenty chests in your crew's possession... at the same time!
Yeah, loot lots before turning in, and pray nobody takes you out. Easiest when working together for the achievement with 4 players on a galleon.
Use the Gold Hoarders' Ancient Vault quests - for 8 or so chests at a time.
Note the chests don't actually have to be on your ship - just in your "possession"; so just picking a chest up counts as making it yours.

For Athena
Uncommon11.5%For Athena's Fortune a Legend can sail, an Emissary of those who prevail.
NB Athena's Fortune only becomes accessible once you're a Pirate Legend.
There is no level requirement to buy the flag for Athene's fortune. Then (in the same room/area as the representative) vote to be emissary on the nearby table.
This will unlock if you're in a crew and you only vote - i.e. even if you're under lvl 15 and someone else buys the flag.
Conversely - you can also do this solo; just buy the flag and vote solo to raise it.
NB being an emissary increases XP gains significantly - helping with other achievement grinds.

You can get this right at the beginning of the game in the tavern - select the banana from your inventory and eat it...
Now Bring Me That Horizon
Very common77.6%You set sail for the first time.
Unmissable, and awarded just for getting started in the game - but some reports of it taking time (up to 2 hours) for it to unlock...
I Wanna Be A Pirate!
Common69.0%Your reputation level with a Trading Company increased for the first time.
You'll get this pretty soon; completing the first initiation voyage for a faction will grant it.
Handbrake Turn
Common68.8%You changed course by dropping anchor while the ship's wheel was at full lock.
Just do what it says on the tin. You can do this anytime you're sailing.
What Shall We Do with a Drunken Sailor?
Common61.9%You vomited for the first time.
You can do this right from the beginning of the game - you start in the tavern, select the tankard from your inventory and drink it. Then go to the bartender and get more. Rinse & repeat until you puke... It takes 3-4 drinks to get this. And the drunken effects on screen are pretty convincing... When you vomit, catch it in your bucket so you have some vomit ready for
Bone-Cronch
Common57.3%You killed a skeleton while it was 'cronching' on a banana.

When You're A Professional Pirate

I Don’t See Your Ship
Common54.8%You took part in the sinking of another crew's ship.
So long as you are part of the crew you'll get this - you don't have to be the one shooting the cannon.
Full Billow
Common53.1%You sailed with all sails fully with the wind.
Some reports (unconfirmed) that this can be glitchy, but you can attempt it anytime. Likely easiest solo so you can use the smaller ship. Just have a go ad adjusting the sails to get the speed boost, try to maximise this and the achievement should pop. Alternatively, you're quite likely to get this popping randomly as you sail about the place and just happen to get the alignment right...
It's A Pirates Life For Me
Common49.5%You completed a Gold Hoarder voyage.
Gold Hoarders are one of the three factions you'll do missions for. These are the ones in the small tent with the gold key flag outside and a wizened dude inside.

Aye of Reach
Uncommon31.4%You purchased a new Eye of Reach from a Weaponsmith.

The Reaping Begins
Uncommon25.0%You have become a Reaper's Bones Emissary; now your foes find you even more scary.
You must first be level 15 for the faction, and then buy the emissary flag for 20,000 gold from their representative at any outpost.

Self Entitled
Uncommon21.7%You own ten Pirate Titles.
You can buy titles from the clothing shops on the last page - after they have been unlocked by progressing/grinding through the game. Some reports that titles earned prior to 1.0.2 (4th April 2018) don't seem to count toward the 10.
Kraken Good Job
Uncommon20.5%You were victorious in a Kraken encounter and lived to tell the tale!
The kraken appears randomly as you sail around; it could spawn could happen anytime while at sea, to a single ship. There is no way to trigger it (nor avoid it) - except that it cannot appear at the same time as another world event. It is defeatable easily with a single ship - just keep hitting the tentacles with cannonfire until it retreats.
Avoid being grabbed by a tentacle and lifted off the ship - if you're solo this is the most likely way to end up sunk and fail.

Rare8.3%You launched yourself from a ship's cannon onto a ship.
Find another player's ship, ideally one that is stationary at a port. Hope they don't shoot at you. Go to a cannon, unload it if it has a cannon ball in it and aim at the other ship. Its helpful to aim at a mast (you won't take damage for hitting it!) so you can splat the mast and fall to the deck. Once aimed, go up to the front of the cannon barrel and use the action to get in it. Then fire self, and win!

What it says on the tin; stand in a group of 5 players and all play a musical instrument at the same time.
But, the bit that makes this harder is 5 players, and there's a max of 4 on your ship. So you need to be lucky with a friendly crew at an outpost, or in an alliance with one. Chat/voice comms to request everyone goes to the tavern for the achievement definitely helps.
