TUNIC
Achievement guide · roadmap · tracker
Tunic is an action adventure about a tiny fox in a big world. Explore the wilderness, discover spooky ruins, and fight terrible creatures from long ago.
TUNIC is Andrew Shouldice's Zelda-like about a small fox exploring a ruined world. Its signature is the in-game instruction manual: you collect its 56 pages one at a time, scattered across the map and written mostly in an invented glyph language - the manual, not the UI, is where mechanics, secrets and hints actually live, so progress is as much decoding as combat. Combat is a compact Souls-like loop (stamina, dodge-roll, shield, shrine upgrades).
Reckon 15-25 hours for 100%, moderate-to-hard. The critical path (bells, three coloured keys, endgame) is straightforward, but the collectible and puzzle achievements are deliberately obtuse - the Holy Cross directional-code system, the 20 hidden fairies, and the 12 Secret Treasures. The No Fail accessibility mode neutralises combat difficulty and is very handy.
Two endings: after all three keys you face The Heir and continue as a spirit (You feel a tingling...).
Game Over is the normal ending (defeat the Heir - the only ending with an achievement); the true ending has no trophy of its own, though its steps (
Your body is restored., all fairies,
Thank you for playing!) each do. One genuinely missable:
Bring it to the wrong fight - get the hidden gun BEFORE the sword, so do it first or on New Game+. Recommended: play once reading pages, bank the easy feats as you pass them, hoard moneybanks, then clean up pages, treasures and fairies with a checklist and No Fail on.
A Stick!
CommonFound a stick
Open the chest holding the stick in the first cave, right at the start. Your opening weapon - effectively can't be missed.
What just happened?
CommonWas resurrected
Die once and respawn - it happens naturally the first time something kills you and you continue as a spirit.
A Sword!
CommonFound a sword
Reach the Hero's Grave in the East Forest and claim the sword. Mandatory to progress.
Ding
CommonRang the Eastern Bell
Ring the Eastern Bell - clear the eastern path / Guard House and activate the bell tower.
It uses stamina
UncommonPerfectly executed a special technique
Perform the lunge technique - press attack and dodge-roll together for a rolling lunge attack. It doesn't need to hit anything.
Your pocket feels heavier...
UncommonUnderstood the margin of page 17
The margin of page 17 hints that throwing enough bombs earns a prize. Throw bombs at enemies (group them near a teleport pad) until it triggers.
Lawnmower
UncommonChopped down 1000 blades of grass
Chop down 1000 blades of grass with your weapon, cumulatively. Happens naturally, but can be finished off in dense grass fields.
Your gift is accepted
UncommonMade an offering
Make an offering at a fox shrine - while resting, "burn" an upgrade component from the lower-right offering slot.
Dong
RareRang the Western Bell
Ring the Western Bell, reached via the western / docks route.
Nothing happened...
RareMade a wish
Toss a coin into the wishing well to make one wish. "Nothing happened" is the joke result.
You hear a strange hum
RareEngaged a strange device
Engage a black obelisk - a tall pillar with red / green / blue glowing segments. Stand at it and hold interact until it charges and sinks. The first is on the way to the Western Bell.
Whoops
RareFroze yourself
Freeze yourself - drop an ice (freeze) bomb at your own feet so the freeze catches you. Needs the ice-bomb item.
Deep In The Forest
RareFound the red key
Get the red key, found in the East Forest after clearing its temple / Siege Engine area. One of the three mandatory keys.
High Above The Clouds
RareFound the green key
Get the green key, from the mountaintop / West Garden region (the Librarian area).
At The Root of The World
RareFound the blue key
Get the blue key, deep in the Quarry / Rooted Ziggurat (the Scavenger area).
What now?
RareCompleted key collection
Collect and deposit all three coloured keys (red, green, blue). Completing the set opens the way to the endgame.
You feel a tingling...
RareEarned the Cathedral's Prize
The Cathedral's Prize. After the Heir takes your body and you become a spirit, complete the Cathedral sequence to gain the purple halo / dash - needed to keep progressing.
Your body is restored.
RareRestored corporeal form
On the true-ending path, after gaining the halo, visit all six Hero Shrines / Graves and pray (hold) at each to regain your full stats. Not needed for the normal ending.
I'm free!
RareFreed a friendly fairy
Free one friendly fairy. There are 20 hidden fairies unlocked by entering Holy Cross D-pad codes at specific spots; freeing any single one pops this.
Mr Mayor
RareFound Secret Treasure #1
Secret Treasure #1. Open the locked door near the East Forest entrance and solve the line / route puzzle on the interior wall.
Sacred Geometry
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #3
Secret Treasure #3. Outside the Windmill shop - input a Holy Cross directional sequence based on the windmill-sail pattern.
Game Over
LegendaryFound your rightful place
The normal ending. Return and defeat the Heir; you take its place, sealed in the box. This is the ending required for 100% (the separate true ending has no achievement of its own).
Thank you for playing!
LegendaryCompleted the Manual
Collect all 56 instruction-manual pages. Several late ones need Holy Cross directional puzzles to reach - use a page checklist. The game's largest collectible.
Regal Weasel
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #6
Secret Treasure #6. Lower / East Forest, down the hidden path left of the golden platform - use the magic dagger and wand together, then the magic orb to reach the alcove (hint on page 53).
Dusty
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #11
Secret Treasure #11. Eastern Vault / Hero's Grave ruins - clear the four leaf piles and teleport-dash across the ruins.
Back to Work
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #9
Secret Treasure #9. On the Beach - stand on the golden platform and enter the Holy Cross sequence.
Spring Falls
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #7
Secret Treasure #7. The secret waterfall room - this is the reward for freeing all 20 fairies, so it doubles as the all-fairies payoff.
Power Up
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #8
Secret Treasure #8. Outside the Old House near the wind chimes - solve the directional-input puzzle there.
Forever Friend
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #12
Secret Treasure #12. The fast-travel hub / Far Shore, at its bottom tip - dash left along a hidden path to the collectible.
Just Some Pals
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #5
Secret Treasure #5. In the Swamp (daytime) near the closed gate - push the four golden skulls into the hole, teleport-dashing across the pillars.
Vintage
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #4
Secret Treasure #4. Near the Ruined Atoll bridge / south beach - a quiet-audio trick: mute the game and stand still in the puddle (about a minute) to trigger the cue, then enter the inputs.
Phonomath
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #10
Secret Treasure #10. Ruined Atoll, left of the large central statue - grapple the hooks, cross the wooden bridge, then teleport-dash across the gap to the treasure.
A Secret Legend
LegendaryFound Secret Treasure #2
Secret Treasure #2. In the Cathedral area at night - a multi-step puzzle involving altering time and reaching a hidden door. (The name nods to TUNIC's working title, "Secret Legend".)
Well done!
LegendaryMade 15 wishes
Make 15 wishes at the wishing well (repeat the coin-toss 15 times across your run).
Too Cute To Smash
LegendaryHad 10 moneybanks at once
Have 10 moneybanks (fox piggy-banks) in your inventory at once. The supply is limited and tempting to smash for coins, so don't spend any until you're holding 10.
Bring it to the wrong fight
LegendaryFound a certain weapon before getting a sword. (Page 38)
Genuinely missable. Page 38 references the hidden gun - you must get the gun BEFORE the sword. Route: turn on No Fail, reach the Quarry / Ruined Atoll, grab the Magic Orb, use it to pull the Envoy off the path guarding the gun chest, then grab the gun - all before taking the sword at Hero's Grave. Easiest on a fresh file or New Game+.
