You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. Use your imagination to design your factory, combine simple elements into ingenious structures, apply management skills to keep it working and finally protect it from the creatures who don't really like you.
Wube's factory-automation masterpiece - one of the most engrossing, ruthlessly well-made games ever, and a genuine productivity hazard. The factory must grow. Be ready to lose whole weekends to it.
89 achievements: 59 in the base game and 30 more from the Space Age expansion (you need the DLC for those - the planet visits, demolishers, quality, the new science packs and Second star to the right and straight on till morning.). None of it is conceptually hard, but it's a big time sink, and a handful of speed and self-restriction challenges are the real spikes. Nothing is permanently missable - it's a sandbox, you can always spin up a fresh save.
Read this first - it will save you a wasted playthrough:
- Non-default settings permanently disable achievements on that save. Any mod (even a "cheat-free" one), any console command, or any enemy/pollution/map setting below default - including the Rail World or Peaceful presets, or reduced biters - kills Steam achievements for that game. Play vanilla, on default map settings, and never touch the console.
- Multiplayer counts only if you're there. To earn an achievement on a multiplayer map you must have been online for more than half of that map's total playtime. Solo is simplest.
- The restriction and speed wins want dedicated base-game saves. "Finish the game" means launch a rocket in the base game, which is fast and clean.
Lazy bastard (Lazy bastard),
There is no spoon (There is no spoon),
No time for chitchat,
Steam all the way,
Raining bullets and
Logistic network embargo each lock a whole save to one ruleset, so plan them as their own short, focused games with Space Age turned off.
Recommended shape: one big Space Age playthrough for all the DLC content - visit Visit Vulcanus,
Visit Fulgora,
Visit Gleba,
Visit Aquilo, the demolishers, quality modules and the new sciences, ending at
Second star to the right and straight on till morning. - which also mops up most base milestones and the production grinds along the way. Then knock out the base-game speed and restriction achievements on separate short saves (Space Age off, default settings), since they fight each other and a relaxed playstyle. The long-haul grinds (
Iron throne 3 at 400k iron/hr,
Mass production 3 at 20M circuits,
Tech maniac all research, and the shattered-planet trek) are the endgame slogs - see each achievement's notes.
It stinks and they don't like it
CommonTrigger an alien attack by pollution.
Trigger a biter attack with pollution. Just run your factory - the pollution cloud spreads to nearby nests and eventually provokes them into attacking. On default settings it happens on its own within the first hour or two; to hurry it, cram pollution-heavy machines (boilers, furnaces, drills) near a biter nest.
Iron throne 1
CommonProduce 20k iron plates per hour.
Produce 20,000 iron plates per hour - a rate, shown live in your Production statistics (the P menu). A modest smelting setup (a few dozen furnaces) comfortably hits it, so it comes naturally as you scale iron. See Iron throne 2 and
Iron throne 3 for the bigger tiers.
Eco unfriendly
CommonResearch oil processing.
Research Oil Processing - the tech that unlocks refineries and turns crude oil into petroleum gas, light and heavy oil. It's the gateway to plastic, sulfur and chemical (blue) science, so you'll research it mid-game as a matter of course. The name's a wink at what oil does to your pollution.
Mass production 1
CommonProduce 10k electronic circuits.
Produce 10,000 electronic circuits in total - a cumulative lifetime count, not a rate. Green circuits are the backbone of everything, so you'll sail past this early. See Mass production 2 and
Mass production 3 for the bigger counts.
Getting on track
CommonBuild a locomotive.
Build a locomotive. Research Railway, craft a locomotive and set it on a piece of rail. See Getting on track like a pro to do it inside 90 minutes and
Trans-Factorio express for the long-path one.
Circuit veteran 1
CommonProduce 1.0k advanced circuits per hour.
Produce 1,000 advanced circuits (red circuits) per hour - a rate in the Production stats. A modest dedicated red-circuit setup does it. See Circuit veteran 2 and
Circuit veteran 3 for the bigger rates.
Run Forrest, run
CommonDestroy 100 trees by impact.
Destroy 100 trees by impact - by driving through them. Hop in a Car or Tank and plough through a forest; every tree you smash counts. 100 comes in one good joyride through dense woodland.
Trans-Factorio express
CommonHave a train plan a path 1000 tiles or longer.
Get a train to plan a path 1,000 tiles or longer. Build two stations at least 1,000 tiles apart (or one long rail line) and send a train between them - the game counts the planned path length. Trivial on any decent rail network; if you want it early, lay a long straight line out into the map and route a loco down it.
Automated construction
CommonConstruct 100 machines using robots.
Have construction robots build 100 machines for you. Once you've got a roboport and construction bots, place ghosts (blueprints, or Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V copy-paste) and let the bots do the building. 100 machines racks up fast the moment you start blueprinting. Pairs with Automated cleanup and feeds
You are doing it right.
Computer age 1
CommonProduce 500 processing units per hour.
Produce 500 processing units (blue circuits) per hour - a rate. Blue circuits are expensive (they need sulfuric acid and red circuits), so this is a mid-to-late setup. See Computer age 2 and
Computer age 3.
Automated cleanup
CommonDeconstruct 100 objects with the construction robots.
Have construction robots deconstruct 100 objects. Grab the Deconstruction Planner from your inventory and drag it over things you want gone - trees, rocks, old buildings - and the bots haul them away. 100 comes quickly when you clear a forest or tidy up a base. Pairs with Automated construction.
You've got a package
UncommonSupply the player by logistic robot.
Get an item delivered to you by a logistic robot. Research the logistic system, build a roboport network with logistic bots and provider chests, then set a personal logistic request in your inventory (e.g. request some iron plates). A bot flies one to you and this pops. Feeds Delivery service.
Watch your step
UncommonGet killed by a moving locomotive.
Get run over by your own train - trains don't brake for you. Set a locomotive running (a short loop of rail works), then walk onto the track in front of it and let it hit you. A joke achievement; you just die and respawn (dropping your inventory as a corpse to loot back), so do it somewhere you can grab your stuff again.
Computer age 2
UncommonProduce 1.0k processing units per hour.
1,000 processing units per hour - double Computer age 1. A solid dedicated blue-circuit build with modules.
Circuit veteran 2
UncommonProduce 10k advanced circuits per hour.
10,000 advanced circuits per hour - ten times Circuit veteran 1. A big dedicated red-circuit build with modules and beacons feeding it steadily.
Iron throne 2
UncommonProduce 200k iron plates per hour.
200,000 iron plates per hour - ten times Iron throne 1. A serious dedicated smelting column: hundreds of furnaces with productivity/speed modules and beacons. Megabase territory, but not hard, just big.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast
UncommonFinish the game.
The base-game finish: launch a rocket. Research the tech tree up to the Rocket Silo (you'll need all six base sciences), build the silo, feed it rocket parts and launch. That's "winning" the base game and it triggers the victory screen. In a Space Age game the rocket is an early stepping-stone off Nauvis instead of the ending - the Space Age finish is Second star to the right and straight on till morning..
Steamrolled
UncommonDestroy 10 spawners by impact.
Destroy 10 enemy spawners by impact - by ramming them with a vehicle. Get a Tank (it's tough enough to survive the worms and biters; a Car gets shredded), drive it straight into biter/spitter nests and crush the spawners. 10 across a couple of nests. See Pest control for destroying just one, by any means.
Mass production 2
UncommonProduce 1M electronic circuits.
1,000,000 electronic circuits, total. Just keep the green-circuit lines running - a healthy factory racks this up over a normal playthrough without you thinking about it.
Delivery service
UncommonSupply the player with 10k items delivered by logistic robots.
Have 10,000 items delivered to you by logistic bots - the grind version of You've got a package. Set generous personal logistic requests (ammo, repair packs, building materials, fuel) and just play; over a long game the bots resupply you thousands of times and it ticks up passively.
Solaris
UncommonProduce more than 10 GJ per hour using solar panels.
Produce more than 10 GJ per hour from solar panels - i.e. a large solar field actually under load (panels only count while they're generating and something's drawing the power, and they make nothing at night, so build generously). Just keep expanding your solar array as you scale up; it'll tick over naturally on a solar-heavy base. Mutually exclusive with Steam all the way on the same save - that one bans solar panels entirely.
Steam power
UncommonStart producing electric power by steam engine.
Your first electricity, and you'll get it within minutes. Place an Offshore Pump on water, pipe it into a Boiler, fuel the Boiler with coal or wood, and wire a Steam Engine to the Boiler's steam output. Pops the moment steam power starts flowing. Unmissable in practice - nothing runs without power.
Research with automation
UncommonResearch a technology using automation science packs.
Research any technology that costs Automation Science Packs (the red ones - iron gear wheel + copper plate). Your first automated research; you'll do it in the opening half-hour. Set up an assembler making red science, feed a lab, pick a tech.
Automate this!
UncommonBuild an assembling machine.
Build an Assembling Machine 1 - craft one and place it. It's how you stop hand-crafting everything, so you'll do it in the first few minutes. Pops on placing your first assembler.
Research with logistics
RareResearch a technology using logistic science packs.
Research a technology using Logistic Science Packs (green - inserter + transport belt). Comes naturally right after red science; just automate green packs and research anything that needs them.
Pest control
RareDestroy a biter spawner.
Destroy a single biter spawner (nest). Shoot it, grenade it, flame it or ram it - any method. You'll do this early on when clearing space or pushing back an attack. See Steamrolled for the ram-10-by-vehicle version.
Circuit veteran 3
RareProduce 25k advanced circuits per hour.
25,000 advanced circuits per hour - the top red-circuit tier, megabase-scale. A large beaconed red-circuit array; falls out of any big late-game base.
Iron throne 3
RareProduce 400k iron plates per hour.
400,000 iron plates per hour - double Iron throne 2 and the top iron tier. A full megabase smelting array with beacons and productivity modules feeding it. One of the long-haul grinds; it'll fall out of any serious megabase.
Computer age 3
RareProduce 5k processing units per hour.
5,000 processing units per hour - the top blue-circuit tier, a big megabase-scale array (blue circuits are the priciest, so this is a chunky build with beacons and productivity modules).
Research with chemicals
RareResearch a technology using chemical science packs.
Research a technology using Chemical Science Packs (blue - engine unit + sulfur + advanced circuit). The mid-game gate: you need oil processing running to make them. Automate blue packs and research on.
Research with military
RareResearch a technology using military science packs.
Research a technology using Military Science Packs (black - piercing rounds + grenade + stone wall). Needed for the weapon and defence techs, so you'll make them once biters become a nuisance.
Solar power
RareStart producing electric power by solar panels.
Research Solar Energy, then build and connect a single Solar Panel. Pops as soon as one is generating (daytime only - panels make nothing at night). A natural step on any playthrough. See Solaris for the big-solar version and
Steam all the way if you're doing a no-solar run.
Pyromaniac
RareDestroy 10k trees with fire.
Destroy 10,000 trees with fire. The fast way: research and equip the Flamethrower, find dense forest, and torch it - fire spreads tree-to-tree, so a big woodland goes up on its own and the count rockets. 10k sounds a lot, but a proper forest fire eats through it quickly. (A flamethrower turret pointed at trees works too.)
You are doing it right
RareConstruct more machines using robots than manually.
Have construction robots build more machines than you've placed by hand. Once you're blueprinting and letting bots do the building (see Automated construction), the robot count overtakes your manual count on its own. If you started very hands-on, just blueprint a big chunk of base and let the bots catch up and pass you. Related:
Automated construction.
Tech maniac
RareResearch all technologies.
Research every (non-infinite) technology - the whole finite tech tree. The infinite research techs that repeat forever (mining productivity, weapon damage and the like) don't need maxing; you just need every tech that has a final level completed. With Space Age installed that includes all the planet tech lines, so it's a genuine endgame science slog - keep the labs fed and it'll tick over. See Research with promethium, since the last techs need the exotic sciences.
Logistic network embargo
RareWin the game without building any active provider or requester chests.
Launch a rocket without building any active provider or requester chests. You can still use the logistic network - just stick to passive provider and storage chests, and avoid the active provider and requester types (and to be safe, buffer chests, which also request). A mild restriction that's easy to honour if you know the rule going in and design around passive providers + storage. Stackable with Steam all the way and
Raining bullets on one save.
Golem
RareSurvive a hit of 500 damage or more.
Survive a single hit of 500 damage or more. You need the armour and shields to take a big blow and live: Power Armor MK2 loaded with Energy Shields is the classic setup. Then walk into something that hits hard - a behemoth worm's spit, a demolisher's bite, or a big biter - and soak 500+ in one hit without dying. Shields absorbing the hit still counts.
Raining bullets
RareWin the game without building any laser turrets.
Launch a rocket without building any Laser Turrets. Defend with Gun Turrets (fed upgraded ammo) and/or Flamethrower Turrets instead - which handle biters comfortably on default settings. Just never place a laser turret on that save. Stacks nicely with Steam all the way and
Logistic network embargo if you want all the no-build wins on one game.
So long and thanks for all the fish
RareSend a raw fish into space via rocket.
A cheeky one. Catch a Raw Fish from a pond on Nauvis (walk up to a fish swimming in the water and grab it by hand), then load it as cargo on a rocket and launch it to space - easiest in Space Age, where rockets carry arbitrary cargo up to a platform. Hitchhiker's Guide gag, nothing to do with finishing; purely for the lols.
Steam all the way
RareWin the game without building any solar panels.
Launch a rocket without ever building a single Solar Panel. Power the whole run on steam (boilers + steam engines) and/or nuclear instead. Easy enough - just never place a solar panel on that save. Mutually exclusive with Solar power and
Solaris, so those are off the table on this run. Best on its own base-game save so one absent-minded panel doesn't spoil it.
Research with production
RareResearch a technology using production science packs.
Research a technology using Production Science Packs (purple - rail + electric furnace + productivity module 1). A late-game pack; you'll be well into the factory before you automate these.
Research with utility
RareResearch a technology using utility science packs.
Research a technology using Utility Science Packs (yellow - flying robot frame + low density structure + processing unit). The other late-game pack, made alongside purple. Automate them and research something.
Reach for the stars
RareCreate a space platform.
Space Age. Create a space platform: research Space Platforms, build a Space Platform Starter Pack, and launch it to orbit on a rocket to found the platform up there. Your gateway off Nauvis and out to the other planets - so it comes fairly early in a Space Age run.
Nuclear power
RareStart producing electric power by nuclear powerplant.
Set up a working nuclear reactor. You need Nuclear Power research and uranium (mine it with sulfuric acid, enrich it in a Centrifuge into fuel cells). Layout: Reactor with a fuel cell → Heat Exchangers turning water to steam → Steam Turbines making the power. Pops once the turbines are spinning. Way more power-dense than steam or solar.
Research with space
RareResearch a technology using space science packs.
Research a technology using Space Science Packs. In the base game these come from launching rockets at the silo (each launch yields space science); in Space Age you produce them up on a space platform in orbit. Either way, get them into a lab and research something.
Mining with determination
LegendaryCompletely deplete a resource patch.
Completely deplete a resource patch - mine an ore field (iron, copper, coal or stone) until every tile is exhausted and the miners stop. Easiest on a small starting patch: leave electric miners on it and come back once it's fully gone. Pick a finite patch - oil wells never fully run dry (they hit a minimum yield), so they don't count.
Mass production 3
LegendaryProduce 20M electronic circuits.
20,000,000 electronic circuits, total - a genuine megabase grind and the biggest of the circuit counts. Needs huge sustained green-circuit throughput running for many hours; it comes as a by-product of any long megabase, so it's about patience, not difficulty.
Make it better
LegendaryInsert a quality module into a module slot.
Space Age. Insert a Quality Module into any machine's module slot. Unlock Quality on the tech tree (early Space Age), craft a Quality Module 1, and slot it into an assembler, miner or the like - quality modules give a chance to produce higher-grade outputs. See Crafting with quality and
My modules are legendary for the crafting-tier quality achievements.
No time for chitchat
LegendaryFinish the game within 15 hours.
Launch a rocket within 15 hours - the gentler speed target and a good stepping stone to There is no spoon. A focused, no-faffing base-game run gets there comfortably: know roughly where you're heading, automate each science pack steadily and beeline the rocket. Default settings, no mods.
Getting on track like a pro
LegendaryBuild a locomotive within the first 90 minutes of the game.
Build a locomotive within the first 90 minutes of in-game time. Railway needs red and green science, so beeline it: automate red and a little green science early, rush the Railway research, then craft a loco and drop it on a rail before the 90-minute mark. Very doable on a normal start if you don't faff about - a light early rush makes it comfortable.
Lazy bastard
LegendaryWin the game by crafting no more than 111 items manually.
Win the game (launch a rocket) having hand-crafted no more than 111 items in total - the famous one. Every crafted item counts individually (hand-making a stack of 5 gears is 5 of your 111), so you must automate essentially everything from the off: hand-craft only the bare minimum to bootstrap a couple of assemblers, then have machines build all the intermediates, assemblers, belts and inserters from there. Watch your tally in the Production stats (items hand-crafted). 111 is tight but enough to bootstrap if you follow a planned opening - there are well-known step-by-step build orders for it. Do it on a dedicated base-game save (default settings, no mods), and it ends when you Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
Terraformer
LegendaryDestroy a cliff.
Destroy a cliff. Cliffs block your builds, so research Cliff Explosives, craft one, and use it on a cliff to blow it away. Pops on your first cliff demolished - you'll do it naturally when a cliff's in the way of your base.
Visit Vulcanus
LegendaryTravel to planet Vulcanus.
Space Age. Travel to Vulcanus, the volcanic planet. Build a space platform, research the route, stock the platform for the trip and fly there, then drop down. Vulcanus is the usual first planet - friendly resources (tungsten, calcite, lava-fed foundry smelting). Its native threat is the demolishers, If it bleeds, we can kill it.
Minions
LegendaryHave 100 combat robots or more following you.
Have 100 or more combat robots following you at once. Research the Follower Robot Count upgrades to raise your cap past 100, then throw a stack of Destroyer Capsules (each releases several destroyers) until 100+ are buzzing around you. Do it near a biter base so they've got something to shoot, or just spam capsules in the open.
If it bleeds, we can kill it
LegendaryKill a small demolisher.
Space Age, on Vulcanus. Kill a Small Demolisher - the giant sandworms that patrol Vulcanus's territories. "Small" is the weakest of the three, but still a serious fight: huge health, and it burrows and lunges. They follow set paths, so hit them hard with rockets/tank shells or funnel them onto a wall of gun turrets with good ammo. Predator reference. See We need bigger guns and
Size doesn't matter for the bigger ones.
Research with metallurgics
LegendaryResearch a technology using metallurgic science packs.
Space Age. Research a tech using Metallurgic Science Packs, made on Vulcanus from tungsten and molten copper. So you'll need to have travelled to Vulcanus (Visit Vulcanus) and stood up its foundry/molten-metal production first.
There is no spoon
LegendaryFinish the game within 8 hours.
Launch a rocket within 8 hours of in-game time - the famous speed challenge. It needs an efficient, planned run: beeline the tech to the rocket silo, skip everything non-essential, keep the build tight and don't stall on biters. Do it on a dedicated base-game save (Space Age off) - and remember any below-default enemy/pollution setting disables it, so it must be default settings, no mods. Not one for a first-timer; follow a known speedrun-style build order. You'll bag No time for chitchat on the way.
Visit Fulgora
LegendaryTravel to planet Fulgora.
Space Age. Travel to Fulgora, the storm-lashed scrap planet. Fly a platform there and land. You survive by recycling scrap into everything (holmium, electromagnetics) and grounding the constant lightning with lightning rods.
Get off my lawn
LegendaryDisturb a demolisher by building on its territory.
Space Age, on Vulcanus. Disturb a demolisher by building on its territory. Each demolisher patrols a marked patch of ground; place any building inside one of those territories and the resident sandworm surfaces, furious. Pops the first time you provoke one - which you'll do just trying to expand on Vulcanus. Leads straight into fighting them, If it bleeds, we can kill it.
Crafting with speed
LegendaryCraft a speed module 3.
Craft a Speed Module 3 - the top-tier speed module. Research Speed Module 3, gather the ingredients (processing units plus a tier-2 module) and craft one. Pops on the craft. See the other module-3 achievements: Crafting with productivity,
Crafting with efficiency and (Space Age)
Crafting with quality.
Research with electromagnetics
LegendaryResearch a technology using electromagnetic science packs.
Space Age. Research using Electromagnetic Science Packs, made on Fulgora (Visit Fulgora) from recycled scrap and holmium via electromagnetic plants.
Visit Gleba
LegendaryTravel to planet Gleba.
Space Age. Travel to Gleba, the humid jungle planet, and land a platform there. Gleba runs on agriculture and spoilage - everything rots over time, so its production has to be continuous rather than stockpiled. Its natives are the pentapods, It stinks and they do like it.
Art of siege
LegendaryDestroy an enemy structure using artillery.
Destroy an enemy structure (nest or worm) using artillery. Build an Artillery Turret or Wagon, load Artillery Shells, and let it auto-fire on nests in range - or reach out and manually target one with the Artillery Remote. Pops when a shell destroys an enemy structure. Covers the same ground as Keeping your hands clean.
It stinks and they do like it
LegendaryAttract a group of pentapods using spores.
Space Age, on Gleba. Attract a group of pentapods using spores. Spores are Gleba's version of pollution - your agricultural buildings emit them, and enough spores draw the native pentapods toward you. So it happens naturally as you set up production on Gleba. Sister achievement to Nauvis's It stinks and they dont like it.
I am the destroyer of worlds
LegendaryUse an atomic bomb.
Use an atomic bomb. Research Atomic Bombs (a deep military tech needing rocketry and uranium processing), craft one, load it into a Rocket Launcher and fire it. Aim it at a big biter base for the full mushroom-cloud effect. Now you are become death, etc.
Research with agriculture
LegendaryResearch a technology using agricultural science packs.
Space Age. Research using Agricultural Science Packs, grown on Gleba (Visit Gleba) from bioflux. Mind the spoilage - Gleba's products rot over time, so keep the science flowing straight into labs rather than stockpiling it.
Crafting with productivity
LegendaryCraft a productivity module 3.
Craft a Productivity Module 3 - the top-tier productivity module. Same idea as Crafting with speed: research it, gather the ingredients (processing units + a tier-2 module) and craft one.
Crafting with quality
LegendaryCraft a quality module 3.
Space Age. Craft a Quality Module 3 - the top-tier quality module. Needs the Quality tech line well up plus the ingredients; craft one to pop. See My modules are legendary for the legendary-grade version.
Arachnophilia
LegendaryBuild a spidertron.
Build a Spidertron - the walking, remote-controllable spider-tank. Research Spidertron (a late tech needing rocket control units and fusion reactor equipment, among other bits), craft it and deploy it. Drive it manually or send it around with the Spidertron Remote. A joy on rough terrain and against biters.
Crafting with efficiency
LegendaryCraft an efficiency module 3.
Craft an Efficiency Module 3 - the top-tier efficiency module (cuts machine power draw). Research it and craft one. The least-used module, but easy to make once unlocked.
Visit Aquilo
LegendaryTravel to planet Aquilo.
Space Age. Travel to Aquilo, the frozen ocean planet - the toughest to establish on, with heat management, ammonia, fluoroketone and fusion power all in play. You need a well-equipped platform just to survive the long trip out. The last planet before the endgame push.
We need bigger guns
LegendaryKill a medium demolisher.
Space Age. Kill a Medium Demolisher on Vulcanus - a bigger, tankier sandworm than the small one (If it bleeds, we can kill it). More health and more damage, so bring upgraded weapons (better ammo and rockets, artillery, or a strong turret wall) before you take one on.
Look at my shiny rare armor
LegendaryEquip rare or better quality of power armor MK2 or mech armor.
Space Age. Equip Power Armor MK2 or Mech Armor at Rare quality or better. Quality armour has more equipment grid slots, so it's worth chasing anyway. Produce a Rare (or Epic/Legendary) Power Armor MK2 or Mech Armor - quality modules in its production chain, or upcycling - and wear it. See No room for more for the ultimate version.
Research with cryogenics
LegendaryResearch a technology using cryogenic science packs.
Space Age. Research using Cryogenic Science Packs, made on Aquilo (Visit Aquilo) - the coldest, fiddliest planet, needing cryogenic plants, ammonia and fluoroketone. A deep late-game pack.
Fusion power
LegendaryStart producing electric power by fusion powerplant.
Space Age. Build a Fusion Reactor plus a Fusion Generator and get it producing. It's deep in the tech tree - you'll unlock it around the cryogenic/Aquilo stage. Lightweight and enormous output, so it's the go-to power for late space platforms and Aquilo, where solar and steam struggle.
Rush to space
LegendaryResearch a technology using another planet's science pack before unlocking production or utility science packs.
Space Age challenge. Research any tech using another planet's science pack (Metallurgic, Electromagnetic or Agricultural) before you've unlocked Production or Utility science. In other words, skip the back half of the Nauvis tech tree and rush off-world early: get to Vulcanus, Fulgora or Gleba, stand up its science and research with it before you touch purple or yellow. A deliberate detour best done on a focused run - Vulcanus is the usual pick as the friendliest first planet.
My modules are legendary
LegendaryCraft a legendary quality module 3.
Space Age. Craft a Legendary (top-grade) Quality Module 3 - i.e. produce the module at legendary quality. Either assemble it from legendary-quality ingredients, or run quality modules through the production chain and upcycle (recycle-and-remake the lower grades) until a legendary one pops out. A late Space Age flex, once your quality/upcycling loop is mature. Base version is Crafting with quality.
Going to shattered planet 1
LegendaryTravel 10 000 km towards the shattered planet.
Space Age. Travel 10,000 km toward the shattered planet - send a space platform out on the long voyage beyond Aquilo, past the system's edge. The platform clocks up distance as it flies; 10,000 km is the first milestone on the road to Second star to the right and straight on till morning.. You'll want a platform built to survive the asteroids that get nastier the further out you go. See
Going to shattered planet 2 and
Going to shattered planet 3.
Keeping your hands clean
LegendaryDestroy your first enemy structure using artillery.
Destroy your first enemy structure with artillery - let the guns do the killing for you. Research Artillery, build an Artillery Turret (or Wagon) and feed it Artillery Shells; it auto-fires on any nest or worm in range, and this pops the first time a shell levels one. Effectively unlocks alongside Art of siege.
Second star to the right and straight on till morning.
LegendaryFinish the game.
The Space Age finish. After you've set up across the planets, you build a platform capable of the long voyage and travel to (or past) the Solar System Edge - the expansion's victory. It's the culmination of a full Space Age run, so expect it a long way in (comfortably 100+ hours for a first playthrough). Do it under time for Express delivery and
Work around the clock.
Size doesn't matter
LegendaryKill a big demolisher.
Space Age. Kill a Big Demolisher on Vulcanus - the largest sandworm and a proper endgame-Vulcanus fight, with enormous health. You'll want serious firepower: artillery barrages, heavily-stacked damage upgrades, or a well-defended kill box with upgraded turrets. The last of the demolisher trio (If it bleeds, we can kill it,
We need bigger guns).
Going to shattered planet 2
LegendaryTravel 30 000 km towards the shattered planet.
30,000 km toward the shattered planet - three times Going to shattered planet 1. Same voyage, further out, where the asteroids get denser and heavier, so the platform needs strong defences (turrets, ammo production) and solid asteroid processing to keep pushing.
Going to shattered planet 3
LegendaryTravel 60 000 km towards the shattered planet.
60,000 km toward the shattered planet - the deepest of the three (Going to shattered planet 1,
Going to shattered planet 2), right at the hairy end of the journey where only a well-built, well-defended platform survives the asteroid storm. Near the culmination of a Space Age run and the promethium science (
Research with promethium) out there.
Research with promethium
LegendaryResearch a technology using promethium science packs.
Space Age, and one of the very last things you'll do. Promethium Science Packs are made out near the edge of the system from promethium asteroid chunks collected on the long haul toward the shattered planet (Going to shattered planet 3 /
Second star to the right and straight on till morning.). Ship them back to a lab and research something. The true endgame science.
Today's fish is trout a la creme
LegendaryEat a legendary fish.
Space Age. Eat a Legendary-quality Raw Fish. Fish heal you when eaten, and a legendary one is the top grade. The practical route is upcycling: run raw fish through a quality-modded recycle-and-remake loop until one rolls up to legendary, then eat it (it's consumed to heal). A quirky quality flex - cousin to So long and thanks for all the fish.
