Just auto-apply (there's a button for this) mods at the beginning of every race and you'll get there soon enough. Auto-apply will only pick mods relevant to the race type/conditions/settings you're about to have.
Just be careful not to accidentally use up any Legendary Mods before you get the "I Am Legend" achievement.

You can change the race length in the Assists menu. Expect this to take about 3 hours to complete.
Try to make sure beforehand that your pace is at least 1 sec/lap faster than the competition - to allow for extra pitstops, mistakes, etc. On +60%CR difficulty the AI runs at around 2:28.1 as their best times.
